With support from Qatar Foundation International, the Council of Michigan Arabic Teachers was established in 2013 and currently under the umbrella of Global Educational Excellence (GEE) to serve over 300 Arabic teachers in the state of Michigan, the council was created in order to build relationships between Arabic language instructors, school administrators and education professionals, as well as provide information to those interested in becoming certified Arabic teachers. The council’s operations are concentrated in the Metro Detroit area, especially in the city of Dearborn. Dearborn is a unique city; it is located in the heart of the Greater Detroit area and is home to the most concentrated Arab population outside of the Middle East. In addition to supporting individual educators, the council will serve schools and their students alike in all things related to Arabic language education.
Partner schools include: Dearborn Public School District (31 schools), King High School (Detroit Public School District), 20 public academies/charter schools, as well as other community schools.
All council activities will be democratically selected by Arabic language instructors and tailored to the professional needs of the council’s members.
